What Is Active Release Technique®?
Relieving tight muscles and trigger points can help in reducing joint stress and improve your overall quality of life. It can help activate muscles that have been turned off due to injury and decrease muscular pain. Active Release Technique® is a type of soft tissue therapy that helps relieve tight muscles and nerve trigger points, greatly reducing joint stress or muscular pains. It is a great treatment option for many joint and muscle injuries.
Active Release Technique® incorporates similar techniques to deep tissue massage and myofascial release because it works by manipulating soft tissue, thereby reducing stress placed on joints and nerves. But every technique differs and depending on the person, they may respond better to various treatments.
Active Release Technique® Reduces Pain and Helps the Body to Heal Faster
Pain and tightness is usually result of overused muscles, which contribute to scar tissue formation, tears, pulls, strains and inflammation. This natural treatment targets connective tissues, major muscle groups, tendons and ligaments. Active Release Technique® restores normal mobility between muscular tissue and nerves. This treatment can also help push joint fluid throughout the body and stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps lower inflammation.
Some of the problems most commonly relieved through Active Release Technique® include:
- Lower back pain
- Shin splints
- Plantar fascittis
- Tension headaches
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Shoulder strains, including frozen shoulder
- Bursitis
- Tennis elbow
- Sciatic nerve pain/sciatica
How Long Does ART® Treatment Take?
The treatment protocol varies from patient to patient. On average, between 3-6 visits (each lasting around 15-30 minutes) are recommended by our Bridgewater chiropractors for the correction of soft tissue problems. Factors that affect the range of treatment include the severity of the problem and the patient’s overall health status.
ART® is considered one of the most effective and successful therapies for soft tissue injuries.
Active Release Technique® Improves Overall Performance
Performance of any task such as golfing, typing, walking or running can be improved significantly with ART® by restoring proper muscle function and movement to allow the body to perform at its most efficient level. Adhesions create drag and tension which requires more energy and effort to accomplish a desired movement. Reaction times can also be improved as muscle function is improved.
